Samuel Abrahám (rector of BISLA) Strengthens Academic Cooperation During Visit to Estonia

From May 10 to 13, 2026, the Rector of BISLA, doc. Samuel Abrahám, PhD., participated in an official foreign working visit to Estonia. The trip, organized by the Slovak Rectors’ Conference (SRK) in cooperation with the Estonian Rectors’ Conference (ERN), focused on the modernization of higher education, digitalization, and the development of institutional cooperation. The Slovak delegation was led by SRK President Vladimír Hiadlovský. During an intensive program in Tallinn and Tartu, representatives of Slovak higher education institutions visited leading Estonian universities. A key moment for our school was the meeting at Tallinn University with Rector Tõnu Viik and the university’s senior management. At this academic forum, Rector Samuel Abrahám initiated an important discussion on the status and development of “Liberal Arts” education in both countries. A significant practical outcome of this visit is an agreement between BISLA and Tallinn University to sign a contract supporting student and staff mobilities under the Erasmus program. This new partnership will open new doors for our students and faculty to engage in international academic exchange at one of Estonia’s premier institutions. In addition to advancing bilateral relations in the field of liberal arts, the trip provided valuable insights into the implementation of AI tools in education, data-informed university governance, and connecting academia with innovation. The Estonian experience demonstrates that investing in university infrastructure is a strategic component of a country’s future. The Slovak delegation presented the domestic higher education sector to their Estonian partners, and the President of the SRK extended an invitation to the Estonian Rectors’ Conference for a reciprocal visit to Slovakia, where discussions on forging closer ties will continue.
